Fixing a Garage Wall

After a few years of working on other projects and bouncing ideas off of Brooke's dad, I finally decided to repair the garage wall. First step was taking off the bad siding.

Theo decided he wanted to be an eagle for halloween this year. I had to check that the wings I made fit him. I found a great tutorial online.

We harvested the tiny watermelon from our garden and then no one ate it. Come on. It was so cute.

First step was adding some metal trim coil to help shed water that gets through the fiber cement siding.

Whenever it rains or snow melts it leaks into our garage. In the winter our garage floor turns into an ice rink.

Next I put the first row of fiber cement siding as far down as possible. This was not as low as the original siding.

It was almost impossible to clean out the crack between the neighbor's blacktop and my garage wall. Someday they'll replace their parking pad and I'll make sure it's NOT against my garage.

After chatting with Brooke's dad I figured out how to get the next row flush.

Meadow and I had a date at the Children's Theater. It was a beautiful day for a bike ride.

Isn't that just called hanging out with your kid?

Not when it's one on one.

We saw Drawing Lessons. I thought this would be perfect for Meadow.

I took a break from working on the garage wall to watch the Packers game.

After the show we walked around MIA.

Meadow thought this painting looked like Theo.

Everything was taking a bit longer than anticipated. I wore a mask while cutting and drilling the pilot holes for the siding nails.

Once we paint it next summer it will look much better.

Last I added the paving sealer Akonaflex. Apparently Home Depot carries a black top version. Ah well.

A big raintsorm the next day made me nervous about the waterproofing, but over time it's been much, much better. No more puddles or really any water in the garage.

This year AMC has been playing all the Studio Ghibli movies. You know we had to go to see Kiki's Delivery Service.

Mexico 2020 - Guanajuato

While planning our Mexico trip Scott discovered a city "nearby" that he said looked cool. He originally told me it was like an hour away.  I think I said a few hours away, but maybe. Except when we got our bus tickets it was actually 6 hours.  Sometimes you need to take a journey for a good adventure. Or something. We picked up this model bus for Theo at the bus station. Also he's claimed the Frida backpack.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month.  I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...

Star Island Canoe Camping on Minnesota's Cass Lake

Scott had a job in Moorhead. You know what that means, road trip!  I had to get a photo of Theo being sweet holding his Baby.  We stayed the night at a Best Western. I've been photographing a lot of these and they're all pretty dang nice. We spent the night swimming in their small waterpark.  I looked up the best playground in Fargo and found Maplewood Park.  Meanwhile I shot the Minnesota State - Moorhead campus. What was even better was that it had a ninja warrior course too. Mexico City has adult "playgrounds" next to all the kids playgrounds and I wish we had more of that here.  We had small ones all along the Oak Leaf Trail in Milwaukee County. Not sure what Minneapolis' deal is. This was harder to do than it looked. The kids were much better at it than me. I've really gotten out of shape over the years.  She says this, but she still looks great.
