Labor Day Weekend at the Three Lakes Cottage in 2024

On our drive to the cottage we stopped at our favorite ice cream shop: Klemish Creamery

One of the farm cats wasn't looking so good and kept coming over by us so we finished our ice cream in the car.

He reeked. That cat's gotta be put down. Not a great endorsement, but ate our ice cream in the car and enjoyed it.

Meadow and Theo went straight to coloring outside when we got to the cottage.

While waiting for breakfast we played a round of Cards Against Humanity family version.

Even baby Viola joined in.

At least for a little while.

Blake is always playing some sort of game with the kids.

Never gonna have kids (probably), but forever the kids favorite.

For awhile Theo always thought Blake was his cousin and not his uncle.

Scott and I took a trip into downtown and made a quick stop at Northland Clothing Co. After our rainy hike on Star Island I realized my rain coat is no longer waterproof so I'm in need of a new one. Didn't find any, guess I'll have to wait until spring.

Back at the cottage, Blake made us some fancy drinks.

We brought up Theo's bike so we could go on bike rides with him. He likes to quit too quickly though.

The doggies and the kids of all ages were all in on the last weekend of summer.

Everyone wanted to swim in the deep.

So we did.

Even dad joined us this time.

Brooke could do this all day.

I could tread water for hours.

Theo wanted to bike again and Harvey said he wanted to scooter with us. I asked Harvey if he would be able to keep up with us. He took off like superman and then when Theo tried to catch up with him he lost control of his bike and landed on his face.

It was not a good look.

Since the Gostisha's weren't here for the 4th we convinced Dan to make his fish boil this weekend.

I think I agree with Dan that it could've been spicier. But everyone was happy with the spice level.

Check out that cotton candy sky.

G.G. probably told me I had to go take a picture.

Blake brought up his bingo and even had bingo prizes. These kids have the best uncle.

Poor Theo. His face was scuffed up.

We kept asking Meadow if she wanted to hold Viola but she wouldn't do it. I was doing dishes when I heard Chelsea say Meadow was holding her. Oh Meadow.

I told Blake to bring his canoe so we could go on a paddling adventure. We dropped in at Lower Ninemile Lake.

I tried to steer again but it was disastrous so we switched once we got to Ninemile Creek.

We were going fast, but occasionally spinning in circles. I looked it up and I guess the bigger person has to be in back. For some reason I thought it was the opposite. Back to me being the steerer.

Blake and Daniel took the lead for a short bit.

I didn't know there was a small dam on Hwy X. I was like, we're here already?

Once we got over the dam the creek was real shallow.

Once in awhile I could jump back in the boat and float for a bit.

Good thing I finally got some water sandals last year. A good pair chacos is perfect for paddling.

It wasn't exactly paddling, but it was dreamy.

Eventually it got deeper and we were able to paddle again.

Then we made it to the Burnt Rollways dam.

A quick break before the next leg of the trip.

I thought this would have been way busier with boats on a holiday weekend.

What the heck?

Spy the gnome mooning us.

We raced ahead in the kevlar cottage canoe.

Once we got onto Cranberry Lake the wind picked up and we were having Cass Lake flashbacks.

This was way worse than Cass Lake. We could not turn and we didn't know where the landing was. But eventually we made it back.

Blake had made another one of his scavenger hunts for the kids. He sure does spoil them.

I did in fact hold Viola for a while before heading home.

We always see little farm stands on our drive back to Minneapolis. We stopped at this one for some produce and mums. I can't believe it's already back to school time.

With Spring Comes Biking

Whenever daylight savings changes I flip the mattress. (I know I'm a little late) Every new season I change the duvet cover.  Scott actually helps me this time. Yup, I'm cool like that. I was a little worried we had too much dough so we got out every pan that could be used for muffins. I was wrong, we only needed two pans. By the time we actually eat "breakfast," at least that's what Brooke calls it, Peanut has already finished most of his Organmix. I know, we spoil the little runt. Speaking of Brooke's fascination with breakfast, she will not eat anything that resembles lunch for her first meal of the day. So, even on the laziest Sunday, breakfast comes before lunch. As you can see Brooklyn really loved her muffin-fast -- even if it was already 1 p.m. While I finish up some dishes Brooke cleans the kitchen. Did you know that Brooke is a cleaning expert (really, she'll clean your house or cook for you. H...

A Day Walking Around the East Isles-Lowry Hill Neighborhood Yard Sale

Well, our garden didn't really grow like I thought it would. Everything seemed to grow really late despite planting early enough. I guess we'll try again next year.  We hardly got any rain and I'm wondering how much the old owners had added compost. We'll definitely be adding a bunch next year. Today was the East Isles-Lowry Hill Neighborhood Yard Sale. We had never gone before so thought it was worth checking out. I mostly wanted to look at all the homes in the neighborhood.  I was going to say the same thing. I mostly wondered aloud why people need such large homes. The kids were finding some good scores. Theo got a Star Wars wallet to hold all his chore money. Meadow got a Pinky Pie My Little Pony. The woman who sold us the wallet said it was good luck. It was her son's first wallet and now he has his own business. We picked up a free ghost decoration, Meadow got a strawberry dress, roller skates for her Build a Bear. a Lion King book and we got a wooden checke...

Money DOES Buy Happiness

I got a wake up call when I realized all the loans I took out for school actually went for school. I'm only working part-time at Menards now which is just enough to pay the rent and bills. My phase of being poor wasn't really a phase, but actually permanent. I took out another loan so I would have extra cash to feed me (being poor is the best diet). I won't see that money for another month which means no time off for a Christmas break. I have to wait a few more days to find out if I even get Christmas Eve off. This is by far the sadest Christmas ever for me. It doesn't even feel like Christmas. Only one house on my street put lights up, I'm used to everyone in my whole town putting up lights. Plus we don't have a tree or any decorations and we haven't had any snow yet. I did get a Christmas present from Menards, 55 dollars in Menards money and this. In two weeks someone I love and care about very deeply will be in London for 5 months and I only get to see hi...
