We Actually Built Something

Scott left us in the morning to go do a photoshoot. Meadow and I had breakfast together. While eating breakfast with my parents in Duluth my mom could't believe Meadow could eat a whole banana. I explained to her that she eats a banana, toast and oatmeal, granola or eggs for breakfast everyday.

The night before we went to Ikea to get this step stool. We have plans for using it for Meadow as you will see later. While Meadow finished eating I started putting it together.

As soon as Scott got back we headed to the Farmers Market for one last time this year.

Brooke wanted me to go to the market by myself after the engagement shoot, but what's the fun in that?

It's amazing how much produce you can still get on a 39 degree day in mid November.

We got a bunch of staples to get us by for a few weeks of groceries: carrots, potatoes, cauliflower to name a few.

When we got home Peanut tried to trick me into feeding him. It's his favorite pastime.

When we got back I finished putting together the stool. I only had to take it all apart and redo it 3 times. Darn Ikea instructions.

Meadow finally fits in my Michael Jordans from when I was a babe. I thought they'd look good with this outfit.

I made sure to pick out the best pieces of wood.

She's definitely watched her dad do this a few times over the years.

Back at home Meadow and I had leftover schnitzel, spaetzle and brussel sprouts for lunch before I put her down for a nap.

Meanwhile Scott and I got to work in the basement. A few weeks back I Googled "learning tower" to see if there were any affordable options and stumbled upon this site. It looked easy enough so I thought I would try it.

I thought I would give Brooke a helping hand, though she's probably awfully handy if she wanted to be.

We had to make a few modifications as some of the lengths she suggested in the instructions didn't match up. Luckily we had extra pieces of wood to recut.

I had planned to do this myself, but I'm glad Scott helped me with all the cutting and drilling.

After a few arguments and cuss words we finished. I'm pretty proud of ourselves. We aren't very handy people so finishing this makes me want to do more around the house.

I just think we have other hobbies that interest us more like cooking, kayaking and snowshoeing. I guess I also don't enjoy it like our dads do.

When Meadow woke up we showed her her new tower. She loves climbing so I knew she would be excited to see it.

It took her a bit to figure out how to climb in, but she soon was an old pro.

"Okay guys give me something to cook."

"Water within reach? Don't mind if I do."

She decided that watching me cook was more fun.

Meadow mostly ate cabbage.

Who knew she likes raw napa cabbage so much? Once in a while she'd go for a sliced onion and quickly realize that it wasn't so yummy.

Napa cabbage, bacon and onions with noodles. This is supposed to go with egg noodles since it's a Hungarian recipe, but I just used some Italian noodles instead.

After Meadow went to bed we continued our latest TV obsession, Boardwalk Empire.

I laughed so hard at this: "After a few arguments and cuss words we finished. I'm pretty proud of ourselves. We aren't very handy people so finishing this makes me want to do more around the house." You guys did a great job!
Now I have the answer to a question I posted in your latest blog...I should be working my way forward.

Oh man...I'm cracking up with your comments about Meadow on the tower...ha, ha. I want a tower now!!!! Can you build me one?

Oh...you DO watch TV.

Eureka! It's Thanksgiving!

For the first time in 2 years we were able to head home for Thanksgiving. I am so thankful this year that Scott isn't working retail. Especially with how ridiculously early stores are opening.  I'm thankful I'm working for myself . Luckily I had Wednesday off and Scott, well, he can have off whenever he wants. We made it out of the city with no traffic and came home in time for dinner.  I made that cake like 5 years ago in school (don't worry just the outside is real). I'm surprised my parents have still kept it even though its changing colors and covered in dust. Everytime we go to my parents house Scott always has to poke fun of my senior pictures. He's just jealous he didn't get to sit on a swing.  My mom had just gotten the upgraded version of Scott's phone. She had no idea how to use it, so Scott had to show her how. For the rest of the weekend I played the part of Geek Squad agent. Better than actually working at BBY. ...

A 39th Birthday Cottage Visit and Ice Skating "The Glide" in Boulder Junction

Back at the cottage for my (early) birthday weekend. Where else would I go for my birthday? I'm a simple man. Grandpa cleared a rink and a little loop for us. Theo just wanted dig in the snow. Meanwhile Meadow and I went cross country skiing on the Anvil Ski Trail. Meadow said she would only go with me if we did a trail with hills. We hiked this a few years ago and it was quite hilly.  She was an old pro on the hills while I wiped out.  We didn't make it too far as Meadow complained her boots were too tight. I made her check the fit a few weeks ago and she claimed they were fine... Was a beautiful trail in the Nicolet National Forest.

Brooke Turns 40, We Return to the Riverside Cabin at Voyageur Canoe Outfitters

This year is my 40th birthday. We originally thought we'd go to Mackinac Island and also played with the idea of going to Montreal. With a spring break trip coming up we settled on a cabin on the Gunflint Trail. The Gunflint Trail is one of our favorite spots in Minnesota. So, why not? We'd also decided to go on another campervan/RV relocation adventure at the end of the month. So don't act like I don't treat my honey. On our drive up we stopped at Tobie's to get cinnamon bread for french toast.  Just like a few years back we stopped at Hungry Hippie Tacos in Duluth. I feel like we have to document whenever these kids get along as it's a rarity these days.  We got the frybread tacos, but the kids stuck with the corn tortilla options. We brought along our projector and stopped at Blake's house to steal his internet to download videos. Once we got to Voyageur Canoe Outfitters and unloaded our stuff, we crossed the river to explore the trails briefly. Our feet ...
