2 Weddings (the Wedding) and a Scenic Drive Home

I woke up early and did finishing touches on the cake.

2 Weddings and a Cake

Brooke woke up bright and early two days before the wedding. She had to whip together a three tier white cake and chocolate and red velvet sheet cakes. I woke up not feeling any better. Actually I slept horribly. I woke up around 6:30 in so much pain. I took a few ibuprofen and slept in my mom's bed that had a heated mattress. At least I could stand up straight.   The kitchen was taken over by mounds of butter, a ton of sugar, way too many eggs (but still not enough) and flour all perfectly divided for each cake. People are always very excited for red velvet. The secret ingredients are red food coloring and cocoa powder. Not as appetizing as it looks, eh? I try to stay away from using too much food coloring. When I made my cake tests I tried using beets to make the red color and wasn't very successful at it. I worked on the cakes while Scott played out on the lake all day. It was the first day all week with no clouds in the sky or any ...

2 Weddings and a Blacksmith

I made cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Not from scratch this time, but from a can I found in the fridge. I needed as much room as possible in the fridge to hold the wedding cakes so we were trying to eat everything in there.  I tried to sleep in, but Brooke really wanted to get vacation going. I think we ended up eating the entire tube of cinnamon rolls. This must be another Romenesko tradition akin to eating six corn on the cobs at one sitting.

2 Weddings and a Very Long Drive

The next morning Scott had to leave bright and early to head back to the Cities for work. I asked Blake to come up so I didn't have stay here alone. I had to leave before eight o'clock to make it back to the Twin Cities on time for work. I had pleaded and pleaded to get off for PI (product inventory for those not accustomed to the world of Best Buy). I didn't get off that one day, but at least they let me off the rest of Brooke's vacation. All I had time to eat was some gas station Wisconsin cheese and sausage (I was trying to keep things local). I also had a Rockstar energy drink. Let's just say I didn't feel like a rockstar later that night.  I was hungover or in dire need of more sleep, but I made it back on time. The 240 mile drive was a blur. Unfortunately I wasn't able to eat or drink anything of substance before work.    Kitty got a new phone.  I went hiking with my parents and Blake in the Nicolet National Forest. ...
