We got up late and decided to go to Manhattan.





We do a lot of walking around



Dan is practicing for New Years.



Dan took us out for lunch with his gift card for some Chicago style pizza. We ate like kings.



We walked through Central Park.



There were some great photo opps.



I'm not sure what this place was for but it was pretty.



There's an ice skating rink in the middle that we're going to check out before we leave.



Some people here dress pretty crazy.



We were going to go to the art museum but the line was a mile long so we walked around instead.



Christmas time is pretty.



Saks 5th Avenue is pretty outside



and inside



I got new shoes at a vintage store yesterday



The biggest Catholic church in the US



Grand Central Station had a light show while we were there



We saw some interesting magazines at the news stand.



Mmmm street vendor pretzels



There was another ice skating rink in Bryant park



We found Time square. It wasn't hard to miss.



We stopped in the Marriot for a drink.



I had to get a cosmo of course. I find that I don't get carded here often. Nice.



The view was great.

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. A Quiet Memorial Day Weekend 2026

This year would be a small crowd for Memorial Weekend. My siblings all had other plans I guess.  I was a bit bummed even if I do love quiet weekends at the cottage. Since we couldn't leave until the kids were out of school, I had us pick up sandwiches to eat on the way. Mine wasn't too bad.  Trader Joe's is always a bit weird. Everything has to be unique. Like why did the kids ham and cheese sandwiches have a log of butter? When we arrived I gave my mom her remaining gifts from Japan as a Mother's day gift. Grandpa's pancakes are the best. Theo has been excited to see how far along the upstairs was done.  It's getting there. Cool and gloomy, just like you imagine Memorial Day Weekend to be, I guess. Rummage saleing this year was a whole family affair. I found a cute luggage rack and Meadow got a painting of plates with tea cups.  Oh, and she was really excited to find a dictionary in the free pile.  She's very serious about her new dictionary.
