It Could Happen To You

An unfortunate and scary thing has happened to us. We were the victims of a burglary. I debated about mentioning this publicly or not.

We had both been out of the house, but not together. I came home and knew something wasn't right. Scott had been home only minutes before me. I would not have gone in the house if I was alone. I called up to Scott not really knowing if he was home or not. He came downstairs and said someone broke in but nothing was missing. I was breathing heavily from being frightened and walked over to where my computer was. I could barely tell him that they took it.

I know I don't live in a perfect neighborhood with white picket fences and streets named after trees. And even though we were at a higher risk it can still happen anywhere.

The only thing they took was my laptop. It was 7 years old and the hard drive is going to crash any day now, but it still sucks. I used it every day. It was easy for them to take because it was sitting on a table in plain view. Had I known the serial number on my computer the police would have been able to track it if it had been sold to a pawn shop.

It's scary to think someone may have been watching us, waiting for us to leave.

Campervan Spring Break: Northern Iowa to Las Vegas, Nevada

Day 1: Minneapolis - Ozawkie, KS After last years awesome, but incredibly expensive San Francisco to Portland campervan vacation , I didn't think we'd be doing one of those again for years. But then Brooke had a work trip to Las Vegas and wanted us to tag along. That didn't quite work, but while researching a weekend campervan rental, I found a great relocation deal from northern Iowa to San Francisco during the kid's spring break. It didn't take much to persuade Brooke. Since our West Coast trip with Escape Campervan 's we found out that almost all of the campervan and RV rental companies need vehicles moved from time to time. They often offer 90% or more off normal rental rates. But we didn't realize that every spring many of the campervan rental agencies also need vehicles moved from mostly Midwest factories to all over the USA and Canada. Northwoods NYE 2024 - Wild Ice Edition

After our stop in Dunbar for lunch, we drove the last hour to Three Lakes for Northwood New Year's Eve. When we arrived we were greeted by Rudolph. I love the addition to the Christmas decor this year. It was time for Second Christmas after all. Grandpa must like playing with fire. Theo will not lose even if he lost. Deer pancakes for our first morning at the cottage. At least for Theo. The rest of us just got plain old pancakes. I'm not sure why, but they're always better when Grandpa makes them. I recently read that you should take a 30 minute walk after eating. Scott and I didn't bother getting dressed and headed outside. That was just my sister talking, but oddly I think it makes my reflux worse. Another New Years with no snow. There was a tiny bit in the shade. Theo got to cut down the tree this year.

Dakotas Road Trip: On to Aberdeen, Lake Traverse Reservation and Bismarck

Day 8 The start of the third leg of our trip was going to be hot. Thankfully we had a long drive across the entire state of South Dakota. We stopped for gas in Phillip, South Dakota and decided to eat in town. Next to our lunch spot, The Retro, was the sign shop that makes all the billboards for Wall Drug. Nothing spectacular, but everyone got to pick something from the lengthy menu. And we were off. I had shoots in Bismarck and on the Lake Traverse Reservations. Originally the plan was to shoot first in Bismarck and then on the northeast South Dakota reservation, but things got flipped around. We thought we would have time to go back to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
